This Month's Highlight: Reading Comprehension
Comprehension is key! We often take for granted what goes into understanding what we read. Reading comprehension is not just something you're either good at or you're not. Rather, it is a skill that can be developed. It is more than just remembering what happens in a story; comprehension is being able to think deeply about what we read and then apply that knowledge to other situations.

As a parent or guardian, you play a key role in helping your child develop his or her reading comprehension skills. Please take a look at the videos below. Each video is tailored to helping you help your child, no matter their age or stage: PreK-1st grade, 2nd & 3rd grade, or 4th & 5th grade.

Where Can I Find Reading Resources for My Child?
One of the biggest challenges you may be facing during the pandemic is finding reading materials for your child. Here are some place where you can find free, online reading resources:
-
Richland County Public Library- RCPL currently offers drive thru pick-up at select locations. You can also check out up to 20 ebooks at a time!
-
Book Flix- This Richland 1 resource is available to all students. If you are not using a district device, you will need to contact your child's teacher for the username & password.
-
Epic- This is a CRES favorite! Epic is free to use during school hours. You can also join with your teacher's class code. If your child's teacher does not use Epic, please contact Mrs. Hering at karen.hering@richlandone.org to be added to her account.
-
Finally, did you know that you can still check out books from the Caughman Road Library? Check out this video for more information!
